How to Use the Records

The date range for each roll book is the first and last date of attendance for the school year. The following periods of time are not included in this series 12/05/1974-01/01/1975 and 1983. 1976 only includes Year 12 roll books

Function / Content

This series consists of school roll books that record information about students at Alice Springs High School. Student details recorded include name, date of birth, and admission or register number. The ages of students on the first day of the school year, and examination grades are sometimes included. Roll books in the first part of the series include addresses of students' places of residence, parents' names and phone numbers. The names of teachers and teaching assistants are recorded. The statistics recorded in the roll books include number of students enrolled; total days of attendance and average days of attendance (per week and school term); and number of days that the school was open. Remarks and absentee notes providing reasons for a student's absence are included in the roll books. Some roll books document occurrences in the community that might have affected student attendance, such as excursions, sporting activities and public holidays. Roll book 8.8, Sherborne, 1977 includes five photographic portraits (20mm x 20mm) of individual students. Staff bulletins, and school newsletters are included throughout the series.
